What is Rovers?

Basically, Rovers (which began in 1918) is the final section of Scouts Australia. Rovers are aged between 18 and 26 and are organised into Crews. Crews accept anyone interested in taking up Rovering, whether or not they have been in Scouts before. Of course, being over 18 we're pretty much our own bosses. We organise the Major Events and run our crews. We also get to do things that you wouldn't do in younger sections of the movement, eg. Buggy (Roger) Racing, Cocktail Nights, Ski Diving and Car Tours. Plus we still do all the other fun stuff, like abseiling, rock climbing, skiing, hiking and camping. We also enjoy regular social activites like bowling, mini golf and going to the movies.

Rovers gives you the opportunity to grow and develop as a person. You'll gain decisiveness, confidence and authority. You'll be part of a group of young adults working together as a Crew. You'll initiate and implement important community projects. You'll plan and manage your Crew's activities and help younger members with theirs. You'll study the skills of leadership - especially leading and counselling young people -developing your own abilities while you are enjoying yourself. Your training as a Rover, and more sophisticated training available to you in management skills, practical psychology and organisational techniques ensures you are well prepared. Because the Scouting Movement is a worldwide organisation, there are also many opportunities for overseas travel.

What's in a name?

Our crew is named after William Francis 'Bill' Waters. A man of the mountains.

When do we meet?

We usually have weekly meetings on Friday nights at 8pm till whenever we finish.

What do we do?

We are a fairly active crew, with quite diverse intersts. We enjoy skiing, hiking, 4 wheel driving, camping and buggy racing. We also go to most major (Victoria wide) rover events and help out at some of the major Venturer activities as well. We do many day/overnight and evening events as a crew. Check out our events page or our photos and program to see what we get up to.

So you want to join up?

Go on, you know you want to.

So, you've seen the site, you've seen what we're all about. Why not give it a go? We all obviously enjoy it if we're still here after all this time. We've all had experiences that we'll remember for ages and have made great friends. Some have even met their other halves through Rovers.

But why our crew? Well that's something you'll have to decide for yourself. You should always join the crew that best suits you, one that shares the same interests. There's Buggy Crews, Hiking Crews, crews that just like to get together and hang out. Choose one that your most likely to want to do the activities.
